Question:
What is the legal ruling regarding performing wudu with the water in which a foul smelling grain has mixed?
Answer:
If some grain falls into water and results in a foul smell but did not alter the viscosity of the water, it is permitted to perform wudu with it. It is mentioned in Fatawa Zainiya, ‘is it permissible to perform wudu with that water which changed due to some foul smelling grain? He answered, yes. I say that due to it being foul smelled it should be makruh, in particular if its smell remains at the time of prayer in which case it will be makruh tahrimi (severely disliked).
