What is the Islamic viewpoint on terrorism?

Question:

What do the pious and expert scholars say about the terrorists in the Islamic republic of Pakistan who target the people and the armed forces and have killed thousands?

Answer:

We loudly echo the words of the Majestic Quran ‘who ever kills one person it is as though he has killed all of humanity.’ The terrorists are, sick and deprave individuals. Our sincere condolences go out to the families of the thousands of innocent Pakistanis: children, men and women, young and old who have been brutally killed by these cowards over the past two decades. We praise the heroic response of the Armed forces of Pakistan. These terrorists are evil, sick and want to damage Pakistan and its peaceful society, we must resist their useless plans of dividing the land of 200 million peaceful people.

We affirm the principles set out in the Joint Statement of the International Islamic Conference on True Islam held in Amman, Jordan, from 4-6 July 2005, which forbids and declares sinful the practice of takfir against any member of the schools of Islam. We affim the principle which holds that ‘no one may issue a fatwa without the requisite personal qualifications which each School of Jurisprudence defines […] No one may claim to do absolute Ijtihad and create a new School of Jurisprudence or to issue unacceptable fatwas that take Muslims out of the principles and certainties of the Shari’a and what has been established in respect of its Schools of Jurisprudence.’

The Pakistan’s civil society, religious organisations and honourable citizens will;

  1. Morally and ethically stand by its government and armed forces and reject the terrorists and provocateur of hatred.
  2. Aim to createa safe-space’ for government and the citizenry to build relationship and trust.  As Civil Society, we should be able to provide platforms where the government can engage with their citizens.
  3. All Pakistanis from different political parties, different sects of Islam must cooperate and be united with their government to fight these criminals and be serious partners against the scourge of extremism and terrorism.

And Allah knows best.
